The HopeLink Story

Life below the poverty line is a ‘normal’ existence for many families and seniors where low incomes, unemployment and unexpected life crises have dragged them to the brink of hunger, tragedy and homelessness. Believing that this ‘normal’ need not be lasting nor permanent, HopeLink exists to ‘change the normal’ for thousands each year. It’s not just our motto but the very heart and purpose of our savvy, dedicated staff and volunteers who, from experience, know creative ways out to a better life and stable living, inevitably transforming their concept of what actually is ‘normal.’ Every person deserves a chance to move out of poverty into a life of self-sufficiency with dignity. HopeLink provides chances and opportunities through providing practical financial assistance, effective case management and imparting hope to the hopeless at crucial points of a life crisis.

In an effort to provide a support network for those needing assistance in Henderson, HopeLink was founded in 1991 by Barbara Gomez and Pamela Erickson. Designated five years later by the State of Nevada as a full service Family Resource Center, HopeLink operates in that capacity today in sites all over the Las Vegas valley. Providing expert case management, a complete base of referrals and in-house funding of assistance for clients in verified crisis, we provide turnkey assistance and services to the unreached and underserved including free classes in parenting, financial guidance, GED/HSE prep, nutrition and practical life skills to help move people out of poverty and into self-sufficiency.

Among services provided are: emergency and inclement weather shelter, housing, supportive housing, community home rentals under the Neighborhood Stabilization Program, food pantry and nutrition programs, senior service programs, community resource fairs, family events and programs, free tax preparation services under the VITA program, holiday gift assistance and rent and utility assistance. All service and program recipients qualify based on verified need and require client accountability, documentation and mutual participation toward case management goals.
