On Tuesday, Oct. 3, HopeLink had a great time at National Night Out! We would like to give a special shout out to Officer Duncan with the Henderson Police Department for planning this special family-friendly event. There was something for everyone, young and older! Our Community Engagement Specialist, Dawnette Fike, had the pleasure of working with Officer Duncan at the Back To School Bash over the summer. He has a heart for his community, and it shows in everything he does.
Two of our Ambassador Volunteers, Sheri Lawson and Elaine Leavitt, who also volunteered at the Back To School Bash in July, helped host our very popular Spin-to-Win game at the HopeLink table. Prizes included Wendy’s Boo Books, $5 gift cards from McDonald’s, Starbucks, Taco Bell, Wendy’s, and Wow Wow Lemonade (located on Marks St. in Henderson), free sandwich coupons from Einstein Bagels (located on Stephanie and Sunset Rd. in Henderson), and a lot of candy!
We would like to thank Kerri Cimino, Mike Formella, John Hannick, Tanya Goode, Goldie Hodgson, Theresa London, Lorna Sheets, and Tracey R. for their personal donations that were used to purchase the gift cards. Wow Wow Lemonade donated a few gift cards as well and Einstein Bagels donated the free sandwich coupons. Not only did we get to treat our Henderson families with a little spinning excitement, but we wanted to also help support some of the local businesses in Henderson, hence choosing the gift cards for the prizes. It was a win-win-win for all of us.
National Night Out is “an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.” As you read above, all this was demonstrated through the actions, contributions, and relationships we are continuing to build within our community.
