Success Story: Finding Stability Through CareerLink
Two years ago, Diane Parkinson was unemployed and facing the possibility of homelessness during the winter. As a single mother of two, she was struggling to balance looking for work with the immediate need to care for her 13-year-old daughter.
Feeling overwhelmed and unsure of her next steps, Diane contacted HopeLink of Southern Nevada. We provided emergency housing assistance, giving Diane and her daughter a place to stay.
From there, we connected her to CareerLink, our career counseling program designed to help individuals re-enter the workforce with confidence.
At CareerLink, Diane received resume assistance that helped her highlight her skills and experience in a way that appealed to potential employers. The program also provided job search support by working directly with local hiring managers, increasing her chances of landing interviews. More than anything, Diane found encouragement from the CareerLink team. “These ladies are very supportive,” she said. “I felt bad. I felt like a loser getting out into the work field and not having a solution, but they always give me good information and resources.”
From the start, CareerLink staff saw Diane’s determination. “From day one, Diane was motivated to re-enter the job field,” they shared. “We met numerous times, and each time made steps closer to employment.”
Today, Diane is actively seeking remote work that allows her to be at home with her family while maintaining financial independence. She regularly checks in with CareerLink for job listings, career fairs, and additional resources, and she hopes to save enough money to finish her bachelor’s degree and secure a long-term career.
Career counseling is a key step on the path to restoring confidence and independence, and generating a brighter future.
