How do I apply for rental assistance?
All applicants must complete our online application using the application link on our website.
If you do not have access to the internet, you may schedule an appointment with a case manager for assistance with completing the application.
Are applications always open?
Applications are only available when funding is available.
When funding is fully allocated, applications will close until additional funding becomes available.
How are applications selected?
Applications are reviewed on a first come, first served basis, as funding allows.
What are the income requirements?
Income eligibility varies depending on the funding source currently available.
In most cases, households must earn at or below 60% of Area Median Income (AMI).
Will I need to show proof of financial hardship?
Yes. Applicants may be asked to provide documentation showing a change in financial circumstances within the past 90 days.
This may include:
- Job loss
- Reduction in work hours
- Missed work due to illness (yourself or a family member)
- Death of a close family member
- Divorce or separation
- Car repairs
- Medical bills
- Other documentation that explains your current financial situation
How long can I receive assistance?
The length and amount of assistance varies depending on the funding source and your household’s situation.
Each case is evaluated individually based on eligibility and available program guidelines.
Can I apply if I’ve received assistance before?
Yes, you may apply again.
However, there may be a limit on the number of months of assistance you can receive per year, depending on the funding source.
How long does it take to hear back after applying?
Response times may vary depending on application volume and case manager caseloads.
Our team makes every effort to contact applicants within three (3) business days.
What documents will I need to provide?
Applicants should be prepared to provide the following documentation for all adults in the household (unless otherwise noted):
Income Verification (last 30 days):
- Pay stubs
- Benefits award letters (SSI, SSDI, TANF, etc.)
- Unemployment benefits
- Any additional sources of income
Financial Information (last 60 days):
- Bank statements from all banks and financial institutions
Identification:
- Valid, unexpired photo ID for all adults on the lease
Housing Documentation:
- Current lease agreement (signed and dated by both tenant and landlord)
- Landlord contact information (payments are made directly to landlords)
If requesting deposit assistance:
- Move-in letter showing a breakdown of all fees
Household Verification:
- Birth certificates for all children in the household
- Social Security numbers for all adults on the lease
Will payments be made directly to me?
No. All rental assistance payments are made directly to the landlord or property management company.
What if I don’t have all my documents ready?
We recommend gathering all required documents before applying to help avoid delays.
Your case manager will let you know if anything additional is needed after reviewing your application.
